New Dominican Foreign Minister meets U.S. Ambassador in Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo.- Dominican Foreign Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó met in Santo Domingo with U.S. Ambassador Leah Francis Campos to discuss bilateral relations and areas of mutual interest between the Dominican Republic and the United States.
During the meeting, the officials reviewed shared priorities and opportunities to expand cooperation based on the countries’ longstanding economic, political and people-to-people ties.
Bisonó highlighted the strong relationship between both nations, emphasizing shared values such as democracy, freedom and respect for sovereignty. He said the Dominican Republic remains committed to working with the United States to promote prosperity and stability.
The meeting also addressed potential areas for greater cooperation and exchange in sectors considered priorities for both countries. The United States is one of the Dominican Republic’s main partners, with extensive ties in trade, investment, cooperation and social connections.
The meeting took place in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, with both officials reaffirming their commitment to maintaining dialogue and advancing a bilateral agenda based on shared interests and mutual respect.
Bisonó recently assumed leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) after being sworn in by Vice President Raquel Peña under Decree 554-26, issued by President Luis Abinader. He was appointed following the resignation of former Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez.
