Abinader receives credentials from nine new ambassadors to Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader received the credentials of nine new ambassadors accredited to the Dominican Republic during a ceremony held Wednesday at the National Palace.

The diplomats represent South Korea, Honduras, Canada, Israel, Chile, Indonesia, Pakistan, Slovenia and Jordan. Vice President Raquel Peña and Foreign Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó attended the ceremony.

The arrival of the new ambassadors is expected to strengthen the Dominican Republic’s bilateral relations and cooperation with the nine countries.

Among the new representatives are Bae Jin Lima of South Korea, a career diplomat who has served in several countries across Latin America, Europe and the Caribbean; Brendan Michael Sutton of Canada, who has held senior positions in his country’s foreign service and served in Moscow and Tokyo; and Oren Bar-El of Israel, who has extensive experience in Latin America and currently serves as a special envoy for energy.

The group also includes Germán Antonio Becker Alvear of Chile, a former ambassador to Panama; Simon Djatwoko Irwantoro Soekarno of Indonesia, who has held several senior positions within Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry; and Rizwan Saeed Sheikh of Pakistan, a diplomat with more than 30 years of foreign service experience.

Andrej Medica of Slovenia, currently chief of staff at his country’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, also presented his credentials. Walid Khalid Abdullah Obeidat of Jordan, a career diplomat and current ambassador to the United Nations in New York, completed the group.

The new diplomatic representatives bring experience in foreign affairs, trade, international organizations and regional cooperation, as the Dominican Republic seeks to strengthen its diplomatic and economic ties with countries across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.
