COE places Santo Domingo and National District under green alert

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) placed Santo Domingo province and the National District under green alert Wednesday afternoon due to the possibility of flooding in rivers, streams and ravines, as well as flash and urban flooding.

The alert was issued as a tropical wave over the central Dominican Republic moves westward, interacting with east-southeasterly winds and a trough. These conditions are expected to increase cloud development and produce moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and wind gusts.

The COE urged residents, particularly those living in vulnerable areas near rivers, streams and ravines, to remain alert and take precautions in case of sudden flooding.

Authorities also advised the public to avoid crossing rivers, streams or ravines with elevated water levels and to stay away from swimming areas in provinces under alert.

Residents were encouraged to follow instructions from civil protection agencies and remain in contact with the Civil Defense, Armed Forces, Red Cross, National Police, Fire Departments and the COE. Emergency assistance is available through *809-472-0909, 9-1-1 and 462.
