Residents protest in Licey al Medio demanding justice for Carolay Taveras
Santiago.- Hundreds of residents of Licey al Medio and Moca protested Wednesday to demand justice for Carolay Taveras Morel, who died after being struck by a vehicle in an incident authorities are investigating as an alleged intentional attack.
Family members, friends and community residents burned tires and blocked the Duarte Highway, at the bridge connecting Licey al Medio with Canca la Reina, causing significant traffic disruptions in the area.
According to preliminary reports, Taveras Morel was with another young man when an argument allegedly broke out with Darlin Martínez Ulloa, known as “Darlyn Zaza.” Authorities say Martínez Ulloa allegedly used a vehicle to run over both victims before fleeing the scene.
Taveras Morel died from her injuries, while the other victim remains hospitalized. His condition has not been disclosed.
The National Police has identified Martínez Ulloa as the alleged perpetrator and issued an arrest warrant. Search operations are underway to locate him.
Protesters called for his swift arrest and a thorough investigation, warning that they will continue demonstrating until the case is brought to justice.
Police were deployed to monitor the demonstration, restore traffic and prevent further incidents. Authorities also urged the suspect to turn himself in through the appropriate legal channels.
