Tourists visiting the Dominican Republic will be able to receive roadside assistance in English through 511
The director of the RD-Vial Trust, Hostos Rizik, reported that tourists visiting the Dominican Republic will be able to be attended to in English when they call 511 to report any emergency that arises during their stay in the country, a novelty that is part of the strategic alliance made with the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur).
“The Tourism team asked me if we had assistance in English for tourists, I told them we didn’t, but I already gave the instructions to be able to have it and strengthen the joint services,” he said.
He said that with the service’s implementation, tourists receive the message that the DR has one of the strongest road assistance services in the region. “Apart from the fact that they have a tourist police, the Digesett and the Intrant… a great support to have more presence in patrolling the streets of the country.”
Rizik said that the strengthening of the security system is, without a doubt, an important contribution to the continued development of the Dominican Republic’s tourist destinations.
It is recalled that 511 is a single number for drivers to report emergencies and incidents on the country’s main roads, “in order to guarantee greater safety and a faster and more efficient response.”
511 replaces 829-688-1000 as the official contact channel for the Integrated Road Assistance Service, operated by the Military and Police Commission (Comipol).
With this number, users can request immediate help in the event of breakdowns, accidents, or other risky situations on the national road network.
The new service is part of the North American Numbering Plan (NANP), of which the Dominican Republic is a part, thus adding to the model implemented in countries such as the United States and Canada.
