Migration authorities flag 22 passengers and detect 10 cases of suspected document fraud at Dominican airports

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detected 22 immigration alerts involving passengers between August 14 and 20, based on requests from Interpol, the Attorney General’s Office and other judicial authorities.

Las Américas International Airport recorded the highest number, with 13 cases, followed by Punta Cana International Airport and Cibao International Airport. The DGM attributed the results to increased coordination among security agencies, the National Police and the use of interconnected information systems for passenger screening.

During the same period, immigration officers also identified 10 cases involving allegedly fraudulent documents at the country’s airports and the Dajabón border crossing. The documents included suspected fake visas and altered passports and identity documents from several countries.

In one case, two Dominican nationals were returned from Tortola after allegedly attempting to enter the territory with supposedly falsified Spanish passports.

The DGM also reported 37 cases in which foreign nationals were denied entry, up from 17 the previous week. The travelers came from countries including Mexico, Colombia, the United States, Nigeria, Haiti, Canada, Cuba and Argentina.

Additionally, 30 Dominican passengers were returned to the country by immigration authorities in several destinations, including the United States, Puerto Rico, Spain, Canada, Colombia and Mexico.
