Ministry of Public Health intensifies dengue prevention efforts

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Public Health is intensifying dengue prevention and control efforts nationwide through provincial health directorates and local health areas, focusing on eliminating mosquito breeding sites and reducing the presence of Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that transmits dengue.

Authorities are carrying out fumigation, community cleanups and breeding-site elimination, while educating families on measures to reduce conditions that allow mosquitoes to reproduce.

Health officials are urging residents to regularly inspect yards, vacant lots and areas around their homes and remove bottles, cans, tires, containers and other objects that can collect standing water. Water tanks and other household storage containers should remain properly covered and regularly cleaned.

Health Minister Victor Atallah emphasized that community participation is essential to preventing dengue, noting that simple actions at home can help reduce transmission risks.

Under the national “Let’s Beat Dengue” campaign and its “Eliminate, Clean and Cover” slogan, the Ministry is encouraging families and communities to actively identify and eliminate potential breeding grounds.

Authorities also recommend periodically applying chlorine to the inside walls of water tanks and other storage containers as an additional measure to help prevent mosquito breeding.
