Dominican Republic opens first official consular office in the Bronx
New York.- The new Dominican consular office in the Bronx, located at 305 E. Fordham Road, operates as an Annex Consular Office under the Dominican Consulate General in New York after receiving authorization from the U.S. Department of State.
Dominican Consul General in New York Jesús Vásquez Martínez described the opening as a major milestone for the Dominican community, particularly as the Bronx has one of the largest and most dynamic Dominican populations in the United States.
The new office is designed to bring Dominican consular services closer to residents, reducing the time and cost associated with traveling to other locations to complete government procedures.
Services available at the new Dominican consular office
The Bronx office will provide a range of services, including:
- Passport services
- Powers of attorney
- Document legalization
- Civil documentation
- Community assistance
- Consular protection
For years, Dominicans in the Bronx relied largely on mobile consular services. Rising demand led the Dominican Consulate General in New York to extend its operations to seven days a week and highlighted the need for a permanent presence in the borough.
The new office resulted from efforts led by Consul General Jesús Vásquez Martínez, with the support of then-Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez and President Luis Abinader.
