NHC warns of potential tropical depression formation in Atlantic

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a low-pressure system in the eastern tropical Atlantic that could develop into a tropical depression within the next few days.

Designated AL96, the system is associated with a tropical wave located several hundred miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. Its showers and thunderstorms remain disorganized, although environmental conditions are currently somewhat favorable for development.

The NHC says a tropical depression could form within the next one to two days as the system moves westward or west-northwestward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.

The system has a 60% chance of formation within 48 hours. However, environmental conditions are expected to become less favorable this weekend, potentially limiting further development.
