Dominican Republic working on security protocol before resuming flights to Haiti

Santo Domingo.- The reopening of commercial flights between the Dominican Republic and Haiti remains on hold as authorities work to finalize new security protocols before resuming air service. Héctor Porcella, head of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), said the process has not been canceled but is being reevaluated to ensure proper safety measures are in place.

According to Porcella, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic is developing a security protocol that will serve as the foundation for reorganizing air traffic between the two countries. He emphasized that the protocol is an essential requirement before any flights can resume.

Flights between the Dominican Republic and Haiti remain suspended, extending a disruption that has affected commercial activity, humanitarian efforts, and family connections between the neighboring nations. The delay reflects ongoing concerns over Haiti’s internal instability, prompting Dominican authorities to proceed cautiously. The upcoming protocol is expected to include stricter controls, enhanced oversight, and new operational guidelines for airlines, crews, and passengers.

Aviation and business sectors continue to closely monitor developments, as the restoration of air links with Haiti is considered important for regional connectivity, trade, and cross-border relations.
