Grupo Estrella expands regional cement operations with El Salvador acquisition

Santo Domingo.- Cemento Panam, a subsidiary of Grupo Estrella, announced the acquisition of Cementos Fortaleza in El Salvador, strengthening its presence in the construction materials market across Central America and the Caribbean.

The agreement includes the company’s production plant in Acajutla, which has an installed capacity of 350,000 tons of cement annually. The transaction was financed with support from the Latin American Foreign Trade Bank (Bladex), BAC and Global Bank.

With the acquisition, Grupo Estrella expands its cement operations to a third market, adding El Salvador to its existing presence in the Dominican Republic and Panama, where it operates under the Cemento Bayano brand.

Giuseppe Maniscalco, president of Estrella’s Industrial Division, described the move as an important step in the company’s regional expansion strategy, saying it will strengthen its cement production platform and create new opportunities in Central America and the Caribbean.

Cemento Panam’s portfolio includes cement, concrete and aggregates. Grupo Estrella, which has 43 years of experience and operations in 16 countries, also has businesses in infrastructure, construction, real estate, prefabricated concrete, steel and other construction materials.

The group’s diversification strategy extends to sectors including energy, healthcare, airports, hardware and media, as it continues pursuing regional growth and expansion.
