AIRD supports new Customs measures for goods transiting to Haiti

Santo Domingo.- The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) expressed its support for the new measures announced by the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) to regulate the transit of goods to Haiti and welcomed efforts to clarify the procedures governing this commercial activity.

AIRD Executive Vice President Mario Pujols emphasized that coordination between Customs and other government institutions is essential to ensuring compliance with regulations and strengthening controls over cross-border operations.

The industrial sector called for clear procedures, defined deadlines and sanctions for violations, arguing that greater certainty will help protect formal trade and prevent disruptions.

The DGA’s measures include requiring transit operations to be requested at least 24 hours in advance, establishing a deadline for goods to leave for Haiti, and reinforcing cargo supervision, security and compliance with the law.

Pujols also stressed the importance of maintaining communication between authorities and businesses so companies can understand procedural changes and adapt their operations accordingly.

AIRD said it trusts the measures and the DGA’s stated zero-tolerance policy toward irregularities will contribute to strengthening controls and promoting more orderly and transparent trade across the Dominican-Haitian border.
