Asonahores and AIRD partner to strengthen local manufacturing in tourism

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic Hotel and Tourism Association (Asonahores) and the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) have signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen the connection between local manufacturing and the tourism sector.

The partnership seeks to increase the participation of Dominican-made products and services in the supply chains of hotels, restaurants and tourism projects, creating new business opportunities for manufacturers and tourism companies while strengthening both sectors’ competitiveness.

As part of the agreement, the organizations will identify products and services currently used by tourism businesses that could be supplied fully or partially by Dominican manufacturers. They will also assess the needs of the hotel industry and the capacity of local producers to meet those demands.

The initiative will facilitate business meetings, networking activities, trade missions and pilot programs designed to connect local suppliers with tourism buyers. These programs will consider factors such as quality, price, reliability and production capacity, while encouraging manufacturers to develop products specifically tailored to the tourism industry.

A second area of cooperation will focus on sustainability and the circular economy. Asonahores and AIRD plan to promote locally produced sustainable alternatives, resource efficiency, waste reduction, recycling and the adoption of more environmentally responsible practices across tourism supply chains.

The organizations will also explore opportunities involving energy efficiency, water conservation, emissions reduction and workforce training aligned with the needs of the tourism sector.

Through the agreement, Asonahores and AIRD aim to use the continued expansion of Dominican tourism to strengthen its ties with the domestic productive sector, increase demand for local goods and services, and ensure that a greater share of tourism-generated value remains within the Dominican economy.

Stop giving tax breaks to foreign owned, especially Spanish, resorts/hotels on the import of commodities, i.e. furniture-hospitality supplies. Dominican producers and industries always should have first shot connecting to tourism sector.
