Ironman 70.3 Cap Cana returns for third edition, strengthening Dominican Republic’s sports tourism sector

The competition not only attracts elite athletes, but also drives thousands of visitors and generates significant economic activity for the destination.

Cap Cana – The third edition of Ironman 70.3 Cap Cana will take place from May 16–18, 2026, bringing together more than 1,000 athletes from approximately 60 countries and reinforcing the Dominican Republic’s growing position as a premier destination for international sports tourism.

The main event, scheduled for May 17, will feature the internationally recognized Ironman 70.3 format, including a 1.9-kilometer swim, 90-kilometer cycling course, and a half marathon. Organizers expect total attendance to surpass 11,000 visitors, highlighting the increasing economic and tourism impact of large-scale sporting events in the region.

The competition will begin with an ocean swim at Juanillo Beach, followed by a flat cycling route through the destination and a running course along the scenic Marina Cap Cana.

Recognized among the top five Ironman 70.3 events in Latin America, this year’s edition will also introduce the TriClub category, further expanding international participation and community engagement. Event organizers noted that while the competition continues to elevate the destination’s global profile, maintaining operational efficiency and long-term sustainability remains a key priority as the event grows.
