Estrellas Orientales bring former MLB star Trevor Bauer to Dominican winter baseball

The Estrellas Orientales have reached an agreement with American right-hander Trevor Bauer to reinforce the team for the 2026-27 Dominican Professional Baseball League (Lidom) season, according to ESPN journalist Enrique Rojas.

Bauer is expected to join the San Pedro de Macorís club for the season, which is scheduled to begin October 16. His signing would be one of the team’s most notable additions for the Dominican winter tournament.

Bauer, who last pitched in MLB in 2021, has continued his career in Japan and Mexico. With the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, he posted a 3.64 ERA and 249 strikeouts in 264.1 innings and was named an NPB All-Star in 2023. In Mexico, he won the 2024 Pitcher of the Year award and helped the Diablos Rojos win a championship.

The 2020 National League Cy Young winner has not returned to MLB since his suspension under the league’s domestic violence and sexual assault policy. His 324-game suspension was reduced to 194 games by an independent arbitrator, and the Dodgers released him in January 2023. Bauer has denied the allegations and was not convicted in court.
