Police arrest suspect in attempted robbery and knife attack in Serrallés

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican National Police arrested a 41-year-old man accused of attacking 23-year-old Gustavo Adolfo III Mejía-Ricart Risk with a knife during an attempted robbery in the Serrallés sector of Santo Domingo.

Police spokesman Diego Pesqueira identified the suspect as Johnny González, who was arrested on 42nd Street in the Capotillo sector of the National District.

Authorities said they seized a knife, clothing and a motorcycle with two license plates allegedly used in the incident. Pesqueira added that González has multiple previous police records involving robbery, assault and drug trafficking.

The attack occurred early Saturday, September 12, as Mejía-Ricart was walking toward his residential tower after parking his vehicle nearby. He reportedly resisted the robbery and was stabbed several times before the attacker fled on a motorcycle.

The victim remains hospitalized while receiving medical treatment.

The suspect has been placed under the control of the Public Prosecutor’s Office as authorities continue investigating the case. President Luis Abinader announced González’s arrest during a press conference on Monday.
