Held at The Westin Punta Cana Resort & Club, the event featured two thematic forums and a closing conversation focused on the book Young Politician.
Infrastructure and investment
The first forum, “Infrastructure and investment: engines of Dominican economic development,” addressed the role of public infrastructure in attracting investment, strengthening competitiveness and improving quality of life.
Participants included Housing and Buildings Minister Jean Luis Rodríguez, RD Vial Trust director Hostos Rizik, InterEnergy Group sustainability director Milagros De Camps Germán, and economist Richard Medina.
Rodríguez highlighted the government’s housing efforts, noting that around 15,000 homes have been delivered nationwide, with another 5,000 expected in the coming months.
Rizik emphasized the importance of road connectivity for regional development, while De Camps pointed to the need to strengthen energy infrastructure, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and increase energy independence.
Medina stressed that sustained public investment in infrastructure can help attract private capital, generate employment, boost tourism and contribute to economic growth.
Legal security and investment
The second forum, “Legislation and legal security: foundations for investment and development,” focused on the importance of strong institutions, clear regulations and a reliable legal framework for investment.
The discussion included Constitutional Court Judge Amaury Reyes, Supreme Court Judge Yorlin Vázquez, and legislators Charles Mariotti Jr., Carmen Ligia Barceló González, Liz Mieses and Rogelio Alfonso Genao, along with Superior Administrative Court Judge Franklin Concepción.
Among the issues discussed were constitutional protections for private property and enterprise, the relationship between the justice system and emerging business models, territorial development and the need to adapt the legal framework to technological advances such as artificial intelligence.
The participants also addressed investment arbitration as a mechanism that can provide greater certainty to investors through established international rules and practices.
GALA Media Group said the forum seeks to create a space for dialogue among different sectors and generations around issues affecting the Dominican Republic’s development.
The organization announced that the platform will return in 2027 with new editions focused on strategic issues for the country’s present and future.
