U.S. Embassy details new third-country migration agreement with the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- The Embassy of the United States in the Dominican Republic said a newly signed agreement with the Dominican government establishes a framework for the temporary transfer of selected third-country nationals from the United States to the Dominican Republic under specific conditions.

According to the embassy, the memorandum of understanding applies only to a limited number of foreign nationals who have undergone a screening process and have no criminal record. Haitian citizens and unaccompanied minors are explicitly excluded from the agreement.

The arrangement is intended to streamline U.S. removal and repatriation procedures while respecting Dominican law, national sovereignty, and existing border protocols. U.S. authorities will coordinate the onward return of those transferred to their countries of origin.

The agreement forms part of broader bilateral cooperation between the United States and the Dominican Republic on regional security, migration management, and the fight against transnational crime.
