Dominican Republic and Argentina sign agreement to expand air connectivity

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic and Argentina have signed an Air Services Agreement aimed at expanding air connectivity between the two countries and creating new opportunities for tourism, trade and investment.

The agreement was signed by Dominican Foreign Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó and Argentina’s Foreign Minister, International Trade and Worship, Pablo Quirno, during the High-Level Week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

The new framework allows both countries to designate one or more airlines to operate international services and gives carriers greater flexibility to determine flight frequencies and capacity according to market conditions.

The agreement covers both scheduled and charter flights, as well as codeshare arrangements and other forms of commercial cooperation between airlines. It also establishes provisions concerning operational safety, passenger protection, ground services and fair competition.

Under the agreed route framework, designated airlines will be able to connect any point in the Dominican Republic with any point in Argentina, with the possibility of including intermediate and onward destinations in accordance with the agreement.

The Dominican Foreign Ministry said the agreement forms part of the government’s economic diplomacy strategy, which seeks to expand markets, promote exports, attract investment and boost tourism by strengthening international connections and creating opportunities for the country’s productive sectors.
