Four cruise ships bring more than 16,000 travelers to Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic welcomed 16,287 cruise travelers aboard four ships, in a day that highlighted the continued growth of cruise tourism in the country, with three vessels arriving in Puerto Plata and another docking at Cabo Rojo, Pedernales.
Puerto Plata received three cruise ships simultaneously at the Amber Cove and Taíno Bay terminals: the Mardi Gras, Carnival Magic and Resilient Lady.
Together, the three vessels brought 12,206 passengers to the North Coast, where visitors had the opportunity to explore local tourist attractions, restaurants, shops and other services.
Based on an estimated average spending of US$100 per passenger, the arrivals could generate approximately US$1.2 million in economic activity for businesses and tourism services in Puerto Plata.
Cabo Rojo welcomes another cruise ship
Meanwhile, the Cabo Rojo cruise port in Pedernales welcomed the Freedom of the Seas on September 30, arriving from Willemstad, Curaçao.
The ship arrived with 4,081 passengers and 1,392 crew members, adding to the growing cruise activity in the country’s southern region.
The arrival highlights the Dominican Republic’s strategy of diversifying its cruise tourism destinations and positioning Cabo Rojo as an emerging hub for international cruise ships.
The simultaneous cruise ship arrivals in Puerto Plata and Pedernales underscore the expansion of the Dominican Republic’s port infrastructure and its growing connectivity with international cruise routes.
Dominican Port Authority Executive Director Alejandro Campos said the activity demonstrates the country’s continued development as a destination for major international cruise lines.
With cruise operations expanding beyond established destinations, Puerto Plata and Cabo Rojo are playing an increasingly important role in the Dominican Republic’s cruise tourism sector, contributing passengers, spending and economic activity to local communities.
