Gold Museum in Cotuí advances with US$1.3 million investment from Barrick Pueblo Viejo
Sánchez Ramírez, DR.- Construction of the Gold Museum in Cotuí is moving forward steadily with a US$1.3 million investment financed by Barrick Pueblo Viejo in partnership with the Dominican government. The project aims to create a cultural and educational landmark that will preserve the mining heritage of Sánchez Ramírez province and highlight the importance of the mining sector to the Dominican Republic.
The museum will showcase the history of gold mining in Cotuí, including mineral extraction and commercialization processes, the region’s geological wealth, and the social and economic impact of mining activity. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, the General Directorate of Mining, and the Ministry of Culture as part of a broader effort to strengthen local identity and promote cultural tourism.
Government officials and company executives recently toured the construction site and praised the quality and progress of the work. Authorities expect the museum to become a new tourist attraction and educational resource that will contribute to economic development in Sánchez Ramírez province. Completion is scheduled for between mid- and late December of this year.
