Punta Bergantín projects a new investment cycle as an “economic engine” of the North
Punta Bergantín’s tourism and real estate development is entering a new phase, with more than US$56 million invested in tourism and real estate infrastructure as part of a strategy to attract new investment, create jobs, and boost productive activity in the North region of the Dominican Republic.
Andrés Marranzini, executive director of the Punta Bergantín Trust, said this during the Construction & Real Estate Summit – North Region 2026, where he presented the project’s progress and strategic vision to help reposition Puerto Plata as an internationally competitive tourist destination.
He explained that the project is at a stage where essential infrastructure development, the structuring of its hotel and residential components, and amenity expansion converge.
He said work is underway on road, electrical, and water infrastructure, as well as the golf course and the conditions needed to support the developments that will make up the destination.
“We are laying the groundwork for Punta Bergantín to be much more than just a real estate development. The vision is to create the conditions for Puerto Plata to once again attract sustained investment, expand and diversify its tourism offerings, and generate a new economic dynamic with an impact on the entire northern region,” he stated.
Marranzini emphasized that although the project is being developed in Puerto Plata, its economic opportunity has a regional scope, connecting the province’s tourism strengths with Santiago and the Cibao region’s business and industrial capabilities, human capital, financial services, and supplier network.
He pointed out that the collaboration seeks to expand tourism-related production chains and create opportunities for sectors such as construction, manufacturing, food and beverages, agriculture, professional services, transportation, logistics, technology, and commerce.
“Punta Bergantín is located in Puerto Plata, but its economic opportunity is regional. We want the investment coming to the destination to also translate into opportunities for suppliers, companies, professionals, and workers in Santiago, Puerto Plata, and the entire northern region,” he stated.
He explained that a significant portion of the current investment is directed first toward creating the infrastructure needed to attract and sustain new developments. This work is being progressively complemented by a tourism and real estate offering that includes hotels, residences, commercial and recreational spaces, beach clubs, and a golf course designed by Beau Welling and Davis Love III.
The executive also emphasized that the project’s growth should create opportunities for nearby communities, particularly Villa Montellano, by integrating businesses and suppliers, creating jobs, and developing human capital.
“The success of Punta Bergantín cannot be measured solely by what happens within the project’s boundaries. Our purpose is to generate skills, jobs, new businesses, and opportunities that remain in the region. That is how a tourism investment can truly become development,” he stated.
“We are talking about creating a new engine of growth for the North. Puerto Plata has history, nature, infrastructure, and a recognized tourism identity; Santiago and the Cibao region have entrepreneurial capacity, talent, and a solid productive base. Connecting these strengths will allow the impact of Punta Bergantín to extend far beyond the destination itself,” he pointed out.
Punta Bergantín seeks to contribute to Puerto Plata by strengthening its capacity to compete for international tourism investment, incorporating new hotel, residential, and entertainment offerings within a comprehensive, sustainable model.
