Four wanted individuals turn themselves in to the National Police, including two teenagers wanted for assaulting a soldier
Four people, including two teenagers, surrendered to authorities this weekend for their alleged involvement in various criminal acts.
With these new deliveries, the number of people who have surrendered to authorities has risen to 29, following President Luis Abinader’s call to those with outstanding arrest warrants.
Last Friday, the National Police reported that 25 people wanted by the justice system had turned themselves in since the president made the appeal. According to authorities, the people handed over up to that point were part of the 107 handovers recorded in September.
The weekend ones
Among the cases reported over the weekend is that of Eduardo Antonio de la Cruz Gabriel, alias ” Niño Cuboy“, 27 years old, who voluntarily surrendered to agents of the National Police after being sought for his alleged involvement in a case of aggravated robbery and assault and wounds that occurred in La Vega.
Police reported that De la Cruz Gabriel was wanted by court order number 2026-AJ0085746, issued by the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of the Judicial District of La Vega.
Another case involves Wilson Gabriel Hilario Arias, known as “El Lápiz,” who surrendered to the Criminal Investigation Department (DICRIM) authorities.
The handover occurred through the intervention of community leader and lawyer Juan “Guanchy” Comprés, after Hilario Arias was identified for his alleged involvement in an attempted robbery of a lottery bank in the Jenny María community.
Two devoted teenagers
These cases are in addition to two 17-year-old teenagers, identified as alleged participants in the robbery against a sergeant major of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD), which occurred in the Mendoza sector, Santo Domingo East.
According to the National Police, via their X account (formerly Twitter), the soldier was assaulted and stripped of his service weapon during the incident, which was captured on video and later shared on social media.
The teenagers were voluntarily handed over to the Housing Investigation Section, Dicrim, by an adult, who also handed over the .38 caliber revolver, serial number 931194, assigned to the soldier, as well as the clothing that both would have used during the incident.
Abinader’s call
President Luis Abinader made the call last Monday, September 28, during the weekly news program “LA Agenda Semanal,” urging those with outstanding arrest warrants to turn themselves in to the authorities. The president warned that the National Police would seek those who failed to do so.
“Those who have arrest warrants should turn themselves in, because if they don’t, they will be sought before they commit another crime,” Abinader stated.
More than 50,000 people are listed as wanted.
Last Thursday, the National Police presented a new database of people with outstanding arrest warrants.
The institution reported 3,877 outstanding arrest warrants against 50,865 people distributed across 31 criminal classifications
National Police spokesman Diego Pesqueira explained that the difference is because some people have more than one arrest warrant.
Violence and robberies, among the main cases
According to data presented by the Police, 17,635 orders, equivalent to 32.7%, correspond to cases of domestic violence.
These are followed by 11,587 warrants for robbery, 5,951 for physical assault, 4,018 for sexual assault, 2,761 for cybercrimes and 2,548 for homicides.
In the case of homicide warrants, the Police indicated that 1,367 people lack identity records, while 1,181 have an identity card and photograph, according to the institution’s presentation.
The National Police have reiterated their call to the people listed as wanted to turn themselves in through the appropriate channels and answer to the authorities for the acts attributed to them.
