IDAC flight simulators draw record 22,516 visitors at FILSD 2026
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) recorded a record 22,516 visitors who used its flight simulators during the 28th Santo Domingo International Book Fair, held from September 24 to October 4.
The IDAC stand became one of the fair’s main attractions, repeating the success of its participation in the Cibao Regional Book and Culture Fair in Santiago earlier this year.
The institution provided visitors with the opportunity to experience piloting an aircraft through its flight simulators, while also offering information about aviation careers available through the Higher Academy of Aeronautical Sciences (ASCA).
IDAC Director General Igor Rodríguez Durán instructed staff to provide visitors with guidance and information about opportunities in the aeronautical sector. The institution said its participation was aimed particularly at encouraging children and young people to consider careers related to aviation.
The 2026 International Book Fair, which featured Panama as guest country and writer José Mármol as guest of honor, attracted 714,322 visitors and generated approximately RD$97.4 million in book sales, according to the Ministry of Culture.
Held at the Juan Pablo Duarte Cultural Plaza, the 10-day event featured more than 700 activities, including conferences, panel discussions, book launches, recitals, workshops, film screenings and theater performances. It also brought together more than 70 international writers, 32 international publishers, 21 Dominican publishers and 44 local bookstores.
