Duartian Institute calls on parties to present proposals on Haitian migration

Santo Domingo.- The president of the Duartian Institute, Wilson Gómez Ramírez, called on political parties and organizations to publicly present their positions and proposals regarding the presence of Haitians in an irregular immigration status in the Dominican Republic.

Gómez Ramírez said citizens have a legitimate right to know how political leaders and their organizations intend to address an issue he considers relevant to the country’s stability, security and social peace.

He urged political organizations to approach the matter responsibly and explain the programs and initiatives they would implement, allowing voters to assess their proposals.

The request was also directed at civil society organizations, the media and those responsible for organizing political and electoral debates, whom he encouraged to include migration policy in public discussions at all levels.

The Duartian Institute said the issue should also be reflected in the political parties’ platforms and programmatic proposals ahead of future elections.
