COE places four areas under green alert as tropical wave brings rain

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) has placed the National District and three provinces under green alert due to increased rainfall associated with a tropical wave affecting the Dominican Republic.

According to the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET), the most active portion of the tropical wave is currently over the Caribbean Sea. However, its associated moisture, local effects and a trough have already produced showers in parts of the country’s southeastern and northeastern regions.

Weather conditions are expected to become more active during the afternoon, with moderate locally heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and wind gusts possible in several areas.

The green alert covers:

  • National District
  • Greater Santo Domingo
  • San Cristóbal
  • Barahona

The COE urged residents in the affected areas to avoid crossing rivers, streams and ravines with elevated water levels and to refrain from using beaches and other swimming areas while the alert remains in effect.
