Pro Consumidor warns Dominicans about recalled electric balloon pumps

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s National Institute for Consumer Protection (Pro Consumidor) has issued a safety alert for electric balloon pumps recalled in the United States over risks of overheating, burns, and potential explosions.

The recall, ordered by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), affects approximately 360,500 units sold by Dollar Tree. The devices, manufactured in China, were distributed through the retailer’s U.S. stores and online platforms, including DollarTree.com and DoorDash.

The alert specifically identifies model 406198, whose number appears on a silver label on the bottom of the pump and on its packaging.

Although the recall was issued in the United States, Pro Consumidor is warning Dominican consumers who may have acquired the devices through online purchases or private imports.

Consumers who own an electric balloon pump are advised to check the model number and immediately stop using the device if it matches the affected model. They should disconnect it from the power supply and consult the official recall instructions for further guidance.

Pro Consumidor also cautioned against attempting to repair devices that overheat, emit a burning smell, or show other signs of malfunction. The agency emphasized that the warning applies specifically to the identified model and does not mean all electric balloon pumps pose the same risk.
