COE places five Dominican provinces under green alert amid heavy rain forecast
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s Emergency Operations Center (COE) has placed five provinces under a green alert due to weather conditions expected to bring heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong wind gusts.
According to the National Meteorological Office (INDOMET), abundant moisture will remain over the country, although conditions are expected to gradually improve beginning Wednesday night.
A trough in the mid- and upper levels of the troposphere, combined with daytime heating, will favor the development of locally heavy showers, thunderstorms, intense wind gusts and possible hail during the afternoon.
The weather is expected to mainly affect the eastern plains, Central Mountain Range, and southwestern and northwestern regions.
The provinces under green alert are:
- La Vega
- Santiago
- Puerto Plata
- Monte Plata
- Valverde
The COE advised residents to avoid crossing rivers, streams and gullies with high water levels and refrain from using swimming areas in provinces under alert.
