American Airlines decides to close its office in Santo Domingo and lays off 130 employees

American Airlines closed its Santo Domingo office on Max Henríquez Ureña Street in the National District, ending decades of personalized service in the Dominican Republic.

The closure occurred as part of a restructuring carried out by the airline’s headquarters and affected approximately 130 employees, who were left without jobs, according to Diario Libre.

“They closed the local department to centralize everything at the regional headquarters,” the source explained.

Despite the office closure, American Airlines’ operations at Dominican Republic airports remain stable, according to information provided to this media outlet.

The source clarified that the decision is not related to a decrease in the airline’s operations and noted that an increase in flights is scheduled for November and December.

Going forward, customers will need to manage their service requests through the American Airlines website or by phone.

For information, users can contact the local number 1-829-200-1161 24 hours a day or the international lines 1-800-433-7300 for English service and 1-800-633-3711 for Spanish service.

American Airlines began operations in the Dominican Republic on September 8, 1975, and has been present in the Dominican market for decades.
