Indotel and Ministry of Defense sign agreement to strengthen cybersecurity

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) and the Ministry of Defense of the Dominican Republic have signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen the country’s telecommunications infrastructure, cyber defense capabilities, and strategic security systems.

The agreement was signed by Indotel Board President Guido Gómez Mazara and Defense Minister Carlos Fernández Onofre. The initiative includes joint efforts to improve radio spectrum monitoring, frequency management, interference prevention, and response to cyber and technological threats.

As part of the partnership, the two institutions will create a specialized technical unit focused on telecommunications and cyber defense. They also plan to establish a Binational Border Monitoring Center to detect illegal signal interference, monitor drone activity, and coordinate responses to potential security risks along the border.

The agreement also includes the sharing of infrastructure to expand telecommunications and surveillance coverage, as well as support for digital transformation and virtual education in military academic institutions. Authorities said the alliance will strengthen the Dominican Republic’s technological sovereignty and enhance the protection of the nation’s critical communications systems.
