Dominican Republic and Canada sign aviation security cooperation agreement
Canada.- Dominican Foreign Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand signed a cooperation agreement Monday in Ottawa to strengthen civil aviation security and protect aircraft from both countries against unlawful interference and serious crimes.
The agreement establishes a framework for deploying specialized and trained government personnel on certain flights between the Dominican Republic and Canada. It was signed during Bisonó’s visit to Canada, the first by a Dominican foreign minister in 20 years, according to the Dominican Foreign Ministry.
The two officials also discussed the crisis in Haiti, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation to support efforts to restore security and stability in the neighboring country. Bisonó thanked Canada for its support in addressing the situation.
Anand said the talks also covered supply chains, investment in critical minerals and energy, and improved connectivity for travelers and businesses.
Bisonó highlighted the Dominican Republic’s strategic location, air and maritime connectivity, and potential as a Caribbean logistics and industrial hub capable of connecting regional and global markets.
