Abinader awards scholarships to young Dominicans who broke reading record
Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader received at the National Palace five young Dominicans who set a Guinness World Record for the longest uninterrupted reading aloud, surpassing 500 hours.
Abril del Rosario Jiménez, Ismael Durán, Maikol Arias, Mayury Vélez and Franchesca Minier completed the challenge after 20 days and 20 hours, beginning on August 31 and concluding on September 21.
During the meeting, Abinader congratulated the young readers and praised their dedication and perseverance. The president had previously highlighted their achievement on X, describing their effort as an example for the country’s youth.
Accompanied by Minister of Youth Carlos Valdez, the five participants each received a scholarship for university studies and a personal computer from the government.
The Ministry of Education selected the five readers through the Directorate of Student Participation and Leadership (PLERD). Their achievement is expected to encourage young people across the Dominican Republic to develop reading habits and recognize education as a tool for personal and national development.
