Dominican Republic and Ontario plan trade mission for early 2027

Dominican Foreign Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó met with Ontario Premier Doug Ford in Canada, where they agreed to promote a trade mission to the Dominican Republic during the first quarter of 2027.

The delegation is expected to include Canadian government officials and business leaders interested in exploring investment and commercial opportunities and establishing direct connections with Dominican companies.

Bisonó highlighted Ontario’s importance as one of Canada’s main economic centers and its strong trade ties with the United States. He expressed the Dominican Republic’s interest in attracting greater investment from the province, particularly in mining and energy, while also discussing opportunities for energy cooperation.

The foreign minister also called for increased access for Dominican products in Ontario, particularly cigars and rum, and highlighted existing air connectivity as a factor that could facilitate trade and expand export opportunities.

The officials also discussed the role of financial and banking services in strengthening economic ties, including the presence of Canadian financial institutions in the Dominican Republic.

The meeting took place during Bisonó’s official visit to Canada, where he is accompanied by a delegation of Dominican business leaders as part of government efforts to strengthen bilateral economic relations and promote greater integration between the two countries’ productive sectors.
