Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader announced that the Dominican government has executed RD$9.545 billion of the RD$31.109 billion allocated for road and infrastructure projects financed through the renegotiation of the Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) contract.
The projects are aimed at improving mobility and connectivity in Greater Santo Domingo while supporting economic activity and ensuring transparency in the use of public funds.
Completed works include improvements to Isabel Aguiar Avenue, with an investment of RD$2.558 billion, and the renovation of Plaza de la Bandera, which cost RD$3.35 billion. The government is also advancing stormwater drainage works along Luperón Avenue, including a tunnel between the Malecón and Plaza de la Bandera, valued at RD$2.482 billion.
Another major project is the road solution for Avenida República de Colombia, which has an estimated investment of RD$11.476 billion. About RD$3.37 billion has been executed so far, with the project including grade separations, return lanes and new road connections. Completion is projected for December 2027.
Other projects underway include a new bascule bridge near Santo Domingo’s existing floating bridge, with an estimated investment of RD$4.5 billion and a 24-month construction period, as well as an overpass on Charles de Gaulle Avenue in Santo Domingo Norte.
Abinader also highlighted the planned expansion of Las Damas Avenue in Santo Domingo Este, which could exceed RD$1 billion, including expropriation costs. The project is intended to improve east-west connectivity and reduce congestion.
The president said public utility decrees may be used when agreements cannot be reached with property owners needed for infrastructure projects. He added that valuations are subject to oversight by National Assets, the Comptroller General and the National Cadastre.
