Abinader congratulates Lula da Silva on re-election as Brazil’s president
Santo Domingo.- Dominican President Luis Abinader congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Sunday following his re-election and expressed hope that both countries will continue working toward greater regional integration.
“Congratulations to President Lula on his election for a new term. May we continue working together for a more integrated and prosperous Latin America,” Abinader said in a post on X.
The Dominican president also congratulated the Brazilian people on what he described as a civic and participatory election.
Lula, of the Workers’ Party, won the runoff with 51.78% of the vote, defeating far-right senator Flávio Bolsonaro, who received 48.22%, according to official results with 99.98% of ballots counted.
The victory gives Lula a fourth presidential term, including his second consecutive term. He is scheduled to take office on January 5 in Brasília at age 81.
