Russian Ambassador says Moscow investigates alleged recruitment of Dominicans

Santo Domingo.- Russian authorities are investigating allegations that Dominican citizens were recruited to participate in the war against Ukraine, Russian Ambassador to the Dominican Republic Alexey Victorovich Seredin said.

Seredin said he remains in communication with the Dominican Foreign Ministry and that Russian authorities are reviewing information on 20 Dominican citizens, although he acknowledged that the number of people involved could be higher.

The ambassador rejected accusations against Russia and questioned a United Nations commission report alleging that foreigners were recruited through deception to join the Russian armed forces. He said Russia considers foreigners who enlist in its military to be heroes, amid reports of citizens from several countries participating in the conflict.

Seredin said Russian authorities expect to complete their investigation and provide information about the Dominican citizens identified on the list.
