U.S. and China account for 60.4% of Dominican Republic imports in 2026
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic imported US$24.44 billion worth of goods between January and September 2026, with the United States and China accounting for 60.4% of total purchases, according to trade data.
The United States remained the country’s leading supplier, representing 42.1% of imports, followed by China with 18.4%. Spain ranked third, alongside Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Colombia, Japan, Italy, and Argentina among the Dominican Republic’s top 10 trading partners. Together, these countries accounted for 79.8% of total imports.
Spain recorded a 12.5% increase in exports to the Dominican Republic, driven mainly by higher purchases of petroleum products, electrical goods, and specialized railway vehicles. Italy, meanwhile, registered the sharpest decline among the main suppliers, with imports falling 31.1%.
Monthly figures showed that March and June posted the strongest year-on-year growth, at 16.9% each. February was the only month to record a decline, with imports falling 6.4% compared with the same month in 2025.
Overall, Dominican imports increased by US$2.05 billion during the first nine months of 2026, largely reflecting higher international prices for crude oil and its derivatives.
