UN praises Dominican Republic’s logistical support for security operations in Haiti

Santo Domingo.- United Nations Under-Secretary-General Daniela Kroslak has praised the Dominican Republic’s logistical support for the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) in Haiti, describing it as essential to facilitating security operations in the neighboring country.

Kroslak made the remarks at the Port of Haina during the departure of a vessel carrying approximately 525 tons of supplies, weapons, specialized vehicles, and support equipment destined for the international force.

The shipment originated in Bangladesh, with Germany providing financial assistance for its transportation. Dominican authorities, in coordination with the United Nations, facilitated the transfer and subsequent shipment to Haiti.

Kroslak, who heads the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH), thanked the Dominican government for helping transport personnel, equipment, and supplies, noting that its cooperation also supports broader UN activities in Haiti.

Dominican Deputy Foreign Minister Ramón Pérez Fermín, representing Foreign Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to international efforts to restore security and stability in Haiti.

German Ambassador Maike Friedrichsen also welcomed the cooperation, expressing her country’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving security in the neighboring nation.
