Grupo Puntacana celebrates 57 years of tourism development in the Dominican Republic

Grupo Puntacana celebrated its 57th anniversary on November 1, highlighting its role in transforming the eastern Dominican Republic into one of the Caribbean’s leading tourism destinations.

Founded in 1969 by Frank R. Rainieri, the company has expanded from a remote area with approximately 52 families into a tourism hub supported by Punta Cana International Airport, which now receives more than 11 million passengers annually.

The company continues to diversify its offerings through sports and luxury tourism, cultural projects, and environmental initiatives. Its sports portfolio includes the Corales Puntacana Championship, an official PGA TOUR event, as well as activities in tennis, padel, and polo.

Its hospitality expansion includes Serena, a Luxury Collection, scheduled to open in 2027, and Rosewood Punta Cana, expected in 2029. The company also recently inaugurated the Rainieri Cultural Center to promote Dominican history and heritage.

Through the Grupo Puntacana Foundation, the company reported producing 303,000 corals for reef restoration, conducting 900 environmental education visits, and processing 65 tons of organic waste over the past year.

Its community programs also provided free medical care to more than 1,500 patients, supported over 870 students, and awarded 60 scholarships.

Among its recent recognitions, Grupo Puntacana was ranked the leading tourism company by MERCO 2025, while founder Frank R. Rainieri received the WTTC Icon Award 2026 for his contributions to tourism development in the Dominican Republic.

The company said it will continue focusing on tourism diversification, environmental conservation, and community development.
