Three Dominican Americans score victories in U.S. congressional elections
Three politicians of Dominican descent won U.S. congressional races Tuesday under the Democratic Party, strengthening the community’s representation in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Darializa Ávila Chevalier won New York’s 13th Congressional District with 87.5% of the vote, defeating Williams, who received 11.4%. The district remains under Democratic control. Ávila Chevalier had previously defeated fellow Dominican Adriano Espaillat in the Democratic primary.

In New Jersey’s 11th District, Analilia Mejía secured 60.2% of the vote, ahead of Republican Hathaway with 38.9% and Bond with 0.9%. The district was also previously represented by a Democrat.

The biggest partisan shift came in Colorado’s 8th District, where Manny Rutinel won with 55.5%, defeating Republican Evans, who received 40.8%. Wood received 3.7%. Rutinel’s victory flipped the district from Republican to Democratic control.

The results highlight the growing role of Dominican Americans in U.S. politics, extending their congressional representation beyond traditional population centers such as New York and New Jersey. Rutinel’s victory in Colorado is particularly notable as it marks a Democratic gain in a district previously held by Republicans.
