Abinader proposes Dominican Republic as headquarters for Ibero-American AI Center

Madrid, Spain.- President Luis Abinader proposed at the XXX Ibero-American Summit that the Dominican Republic host a center dedicated to advancing the Ibero-American alliance on artificial intelligence agreed upon during the meeting.

Abinader said the country is prepared to make its institutional and technical infrastructure available to support the initiative and help promote technological development across the region. He stressed that artificial intelligence should help close social and economic gaps rather than deepen inequalities, while reaffirming the importance of protecting human dignity amid technological advances.

The president also called for stronger regional cooperation through concrete initiatives addressing global challenges, particularly in family farming, social protection and climate risk early warning systems.

Highlighting the Dominican Republic’s progress, Abinader said the country has reduced the prevalence of undernourishment to below 2.5%, a milestone recognized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) that led to its removal from the World Hunger Map. He also cited a decline in monetary poverty from 19% in 2024 to 17.3% in 2025, with further reductions recorded in 2026. On institutional matters, he highlighted the 2024 constitutional reform, which he said strengthens limits on presidential power and democratic alternation.

Abinader emphasized that strong institutions must remain more powerful than the individuals who lead them, calling for continued efforts to build more equitable and prosperous societies.
