Abinader urges stronger early warning systems to confront climate threats

Madrid.- President Luis Abinader called for stronger cooperation among Ibero-American countries to improve early warning systems and disaster risk management amid the growing threat posed by climate change.

Speaking at the XXX Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, led by King Felipe VI of Spain, Abinader highlighted the Dominican Republic’s vulnerability as a Caribbean island nation, warning that hurricanes and other extreme weather events can erase years of economic and social progress.

Abinader urged countries to strengthen regional mechanisms for disaster prevention and response, emphasizing the importance of sharing resources, expertise, and experiences. He stressed that resilience cannot be built in isolation and called for greater solidarity among nations to protect communities and reduce the impact of natural disasters.
