COE extends green alert for 15 provinces and the DN due to a trough expected to arrive this Sunday
The Emergency Operations Center (COE) extended the green alert level this Saturday for 15 provinces and the National District due to the intensification of a trough and the passage of a tropical wave, which will impact the area from this Sunday with intense rainfall.
The measure was adopted after the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) warned of moderate downpours, isolated thunderstorms, and possible gusts of wind in several areas of the country during the afternoon, evening, and early morning.
The districts under alert are Montecristi, Puerto Plata, Samaná, Dajabón, San Cristóbal, Hato Mayor, Valverde, San José de Ocoa, Monte Plata, Santo Domingo, Sánchez Ramírez, Espaillat, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, and Santiago Rodríguez.
The agency explained that atmospheric conditions could cause rivers, streams, and ravines to overflow, as well as urban and flash floods, especially in vulnerable communities. It also indicated that rainfall will affect provinces such as La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Santiago, and La Altagracia.
Given the situation, the COE urged the public to stay tuned to official bulletins and follow the guidelines of civil protection agencies. It also recommended avoiding crossing rivers or streams with high water levels and refraining from using swimming areas in the provinces under alert.
