ProDominicana highlights growth of tobacco and rum exports as symbols of national identity
Santo Domingo.- The ProDominicana celebrated the fifth edition of its “Tobacco and Rum Night,” an event showcasing two of the Dominican Republic’s most iconic export products and their growing international presence.
The gathering brought together business leaders, exporters, diplomats, and strategic partners to highlight the economic and cultural importance of Dominican tobacco and rum, industries considered central to the country’s identity and global brand.
During the event, ProDominicana Executive Director Biviana Riveiro emphasized that promoting traditional sectors such as tobacco and rum remains a priority for strengthening the Dominican Republic’s position in international markets.
According to official figures shared during the celebration, tobacco and related product exports reached approximately US$1.36 billion in 2025, with major destinations including the United States, Germany, China, Puerto Rico, and Spain. During the first quarter of 2026 alone, exports totaled more than US$364 million, representing a 19% increase compared to the same period last year.
Dominican rum exports also continued to expand internationally. In 2025, exports surpassed US$116 million, with Spain, the United States, Cyprus, Haiti, the Netherlands, and Germany among the main markets. In the first months of 2026, exports exceeded US$29 million, reflecting 26% growth year-over-year.
