CONSTRUEXPO 2026 opens in Punta Cana with construction reform measures
Punta Cana.- The 18th edition of CONSTRUEXPO 2026 officially opened at the BlueMall Punta Cana Convention Center, highlighting the rapid growth of Punta Cana and the eastern Dominican Republic as key hubs for real estate investment, tourism, and urban development in the Caribbean.
The opening ceremony was led by Víctor Bisonó, who announced new measures aimed at modernizing and accelerating construction permitting processes, long considered one of the main obstacles to infrastructure and real estate development in the country. Among the initiatives unveiled were an upgraded Single Window for Construction platform and the implementation of the NORM system, designed to standardize technical evaluations and improve transparency.
Bisonó revealed that construction licenses issued during the first four months of 2026 increased by 93%, rising from 380 to 665 approvals compared to the same period last year, representing investments exceeding RD$230 billion. He also announced the creation of the Alliance for the Promotion of the Construction Sector, a public-private initiative developed alongside the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic and other business groups to strengthen productive chains and support sustainable industry growth.
Organized by José Veras & Associates, CONSTRUEXPO 2026 runs from May 21 to 23 and features more than 48 exhibitors, including 16 international companies from countries such as Italy, Spain, Panama, Ecuador, Colombia, and the United States. The event has become one of the Dominican Republic’s leading construction and infrastructure business platforms.
Industry leaders emphasized that Punta Cana’s continued expansion in tourism, residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments is reshaping the Dominican construction sector. Annerys Meléndez highlighted the importance of balancing growth with sustainability and planning, while Mario Betances stressed the role of technology and industrialized construction models in the industry’s future.
