Abandoned suitcase at Las Américas Airport found with 29 pounds of marijuana

Santo Domingo.- Agents from the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), working with the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC) and the Public Ministry, seized nearly 29 pounds of marijuana during an inspection at Las Américas International Airport.

Authorities said the drugs were found inside a black suitcase abandoned in the airport’s arrivals area by a passenger who had arrived on a flight from New York. Following instructions from a prosecutor, officers opened the luggage and discovered two packages of marijuana concealed among clothing.

The National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) confirmed the seized marijuana weighed 28.98 pounds. Investigators have preliminarily identified the passenger and are continuing efforts to locate and arrest the suspect, while authorities reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening anti-drug operations at airports, ports, borders, and other entry points across the country.
