Abinader and Carolina Mejía unveils Paseo 30 de Mayo Sports Park, advancing Santo Domingo’s urban transformation

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader and National District Mayor Carolina Mejía inaugurated the Paseo 30 de Mayo Sports Park on Thursday, unveiling one of the most significant urban development projects completed in Santo Domingo in recent years. Spanning more than 50,000 square meters, the new recreational complex is designed to transform public spaces into opportunities for sports, leisure, and community engagement as part of the Integrated Plan for Santo Domingo (PISD).

During the inauguration ceremony, President Abinader highlighted the project’s impact on residents across the capital, describing it as a key component of the government’s broader vision for urban development and quality of life. The park, considered the second-largest recreational space in the National District, was developed through a collaborative effort involving the central government, the National District City Hall, and private-sector partners.

One of the park’s main attractions is a modern speed skating facility built to international standards, which will host the speed skating competitions during the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. The venue is also expected to serve as a site for future international sporting events.

The sports park features a wide range of amenities, including a bicycle lane, pedestrian ramp, sports courts, children’s playgrounds, an urban amphitheater, a dog park, exercise areas, parking facilities, rest zones, historical ruins, and direct access to the OMSA public transportation network. The project also incorporates the distinctive Malecón slab, a specially designed pavement inspired by Santo Domingo’s marine coastline that adds visual identity and aesthetic value to the area.

Paseo 30 de Mayo joins the Paseo Marítimo and the Malecón Deportivo as part of the Integrated Plan for Santo Domingo, helping create a continuous waterfront corridor dedicated to recreation, sports, and public gatherings. Authorities say the initiative strengthens the capital’s connection to its coastline while advancing a vision of a more modern, organized, and inclusive city.
