Abinader arrives in Guyana to sign new cooperation agreements with President Ali

Georgetown, Guyana.- President Luis Abinader arrived in Georgetown, Guyana, on Wednesday evening for his fourth official visit to the South American nation, where he is set to strengthen bilateral relations and sign new cooperation agreements with President Mohamed Irfaan Ali.

The Dominican president was welcomed at the airport by Prime Minister Mark Anthony Phillips, Foreign Minister Hugh Todd, and Dominican Ambassador to Guyana Ernesto Torres. Following military honors, Abinader attended a reception at Government House with Guyanese officials.

On Thursday, Presidents Abinader and Ali are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting, followed by the signing of a new cooperation agreement. The visit builds on the progress made in 2023, when both countries signed six memorandums of understanding focused on energy, food security, and trade. Abinader is accompanied by Energy and Mines Minister Joel Santos, Refidomsa Chairman Samuel Pereyra, and Guyana affairs coordinator Tulio Rodríguez. The president is expected to return to the Dominican Republic on Thursday.
