Abinader commits to turn national education consultation into public policy

During a ceremony at the National Palace, Abinader said the consultation, conducted by the Executive Commission for Educational Transformation, reflected a shared national vision for education and would serve as the foundation for a new legal framework. “The law we are going to build will not reflect the system we already have; it will make possible the one we are going to need,” he said.

The president emphasized the need to strengthen early childhood learning, expand inclusive education, improve technical and vocational training, reinforce higher education, and prepare students with the skills needed for a rapidly changing world.

The report compiles recommendations from one of the country’s largest citizen participation processes, bringing together input from educators, universities, businesses, civil society organizations, families, and Dominicans living abroad.

Among the priorities identified are updating school curricula, strengthening teacher training, integrating technology, artificial intelligence, innovation, and research into education, while promoting critical thinking, creativity, ethics, and civic values.

The findings will serve as the basis for new public policies and the drafting of a new General Law on Education, Science, and Technology, aimed at modernizing the country’s education system and supporting long-term national development.
