Abinader credits farmers as Dominican Republic exits FAO Hunger Map

Speaking at an event in Moca, Abinader said the country’s reduction of undernourishment to below 2.5% of the population reflects the combined impact of higher food production and government policies that improved access to food through support for farmers, wage increases, job growth, and expanded social protection programs.

“The Dominican Republic is off the Hunger Map because its producers never stopped feeding and working for this country,” the president said, pledging continued support for modernizing agriculture through financing, irrigation, technical assistance, agricultural insurance, and infrastructure investments.

Representing the agricultural sector, Dionis Fernández described the FAO recognition as evidence of a structural improvement in the country’s food security. He urged continued investment in financing, technology, infrastructure, insurance, and market access to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of Dominican agriculture.
